A diverse show of new Jewish music from the Chicago area featuring three very different bands - the wonderful pop satire of The Alte Rockers, the psycho world fusion of Ovadya and the ‘tradition with a twist’ neo-exotica of Mi Yodea plus a finale with all three on stage together. A benefit for Limmud Chicago- the annual festival of Jewish learning, at the Skokie Theatre located at 7924 N Lincoln Ave in Skokie. Tickets are $20.00 in advance/$25.00 at the door. “The Messiah” will be performed on Sun. Dec. 4th at 2:30 p.m. at Carter-Westminster United Presbyterian Church, 4950 W.  Pratt Ave, Skokie 60077. The performance will include members of the Lyric Opera and the Carter-Westminster Chancel Choir. The performance is open to the public and there is no charge to attend. Ruben Zapata is a modern day Renaissance performer. He is director/choreographer of North Shore Dance & Drama Center's performing group Showstoppers as well as an instructor for several of the studio's ballet, funk, modern dance classes. During his professional dance career, Ruben has toured Europe and the United States with different dance troupes.

Rosa Julstrom

 

Rosa Julstrom, a new Society member and a retired pianist and teacher, presents a program, “Piano Pieces from the Americas” on August 7th. She will include pieces by lesser-known African American and Latin American composers and provide some commentary on each. Joining Rosa will be her son, Society member Steve Julstrom, playing his father’s violin solos.
