Niles West High School is gearing up for the June 11th "Relay For Life Of Skokie, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove & Niles." Relay for Life is the country's largest fundraiser and is dedicated to eradicating cancer.  Teams will take turns walking or running around the track.

 

The American Cancer Society program is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.

Good News, Bad News at the Annual Mental Health Forum in Skokie Library

At Turning Point's annual Forum, the news was mixed. While every agency in attendance spoke of many fewer dollars available for mental health services, they also detailed the ways they are working more effectively together.

RESPONSE Teens Go "Green" At This Year's Snowball Retreat

The theme of this year's RESPONSE's Snowball teen retreat is "going green." Snowball is an annual retreat planned and led by teens that gives you a break from your life and introduces you to new people from all over Chicago and suburbs. With support from Response staff, teens lead a weekend of fun activities like Ultimate Frisbee or Improv. You can also learn new things too! In past years students have explores issues of elf-defense, sexual identity, violence, diversity, and substance abuse prevention. Snowball is held at Camp Henry Horner in Ingleside, IL.

The Skokie Carrier Watch Program authorizes postal carriers to notify the Human Services Division if a resident's mail has accumulated for more than 24 hours. The resident and/or emergency contact person will be notified. Seniors and persons with disabilities can sign up for this free program by calling 847.933.8208.

The Village of Skokie Human Services Division invites seniors and persons with disabilities to sign up for the "Carrier Watch" program.

 

Carrier Watch authorizes post carriers to notify the Human Services Division if a resident's mail has not been removed from their mail box after two days. The Human Services Division will notify the senior's designated emergency contact.

Skokie Among The First 100 Illinois Towns Ready To Be "Safe Haven" to Abandoned Babies

The Save Abandoned Babies Foundation has announced that the Village of Skokie is among the first 100 Illinois towns to comply with a law passed in August 2007 that required hospitals, fire and police stations and sheriff offices to post "safe haven" signs prominently on their exteriors.
