 John Carzoli, professor of physics, and Michael Madill, instructor of geography, history, and political science, are the recipients of the 2010 Ray Hartstein Awards for Outstanding Professional Excellence in Teaching at Oakton Community College. The honors were announced Aug. 19 at the College’s annual breakfast.

Carzoli, chair of the physical science department, joined Oakton full-time in 1999.

Skokie Public Librarian Serves On New Commission on Family Services

Skokie's Commission of Family Services is a new forum on a wide range of issues concerning Skokie's most vulnerable citizens.  The group held its first meeeting in April.

 

The mission of the Family Services Commission includes facilitating improvements in the quality of life for Skokie's most vulnerable persons regardless of age, physical well-being, or socio-economic status through public information, education and advocacy.

Village to Honor 'Merchants of the Year' At June 7th Board Meeting

The Skokie Consumer Affairs Commission will honor the winners of the 2010 Merchant of the Year awards at the June 7, 2010 Village Board Meeting.  There were over 500 ballots nominating 15 different Skokie Businesses.

IMODS Disburses Remaining Donations In Foyteck Memorial Fund

IMODS recently forward $1,824 to the United Service Organization (USO) of Illinois raised in memory of Skokian Kraig Foyteck, killed in service in Iraq in 2006.

 

Altogether, $8,000 was raised to build a memorial commemorating  Foyteck, who attended local schools.

Skokie Mourns The Loss Of Judge Harold Sullivan

 

Our condolences to the family of Judge Harold Sullivan a long-time resident of Skokie and a key judge in the village's history.  Judge Sullivan died last month. 

 

Judge Sullivan was elected to the bench in 1960 and was the presiding judge of Cook County's 2nd Municipal District for more than 30 years.

Be a part of Skokie's "big picture!" Get your picture taken with nearly 300 of your Skokie neighbors during The Skokie Festival of Cultures. Everyone in Skokie is invited to be in the big group picture being made during the opening ceremonies of the Festival of Cultures. This picture will launch the All Skokie Photo Project.

 

The photo will be taken Saturday, May 22nd at 1pm. (Rain date is Sunday, May 23rd)
