Chicago's only radio reading service for the blind and physically handicapped. Broadcasting on a sub-carrier channel of WBEZ-FM, CRIS utilizes hundreds of volunteers to provide verbatim readings of the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, and many other newspapers and magazines.

E.A.R.S. is a nonprofit public charity. We provide, free of charge, audio cassette lesson tapes that teach adaptive daily living skills to the vision impaired and their caregivers. The lessons, modeled after current blind rehabilitation techniques, are a must for anyone coping with loss of eyesight.

The Central Blind Rehabilitation Center (CBRC) is a 34-bed residential facility at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital. The CBRC is one of ten VA Blind Centers located across the US and in Puerto Rico. Hines VA Hospital is located just west of Chicago.

Illinois Center for Rehabilitation and Education - Wood (ICRE-Wood) assists adults who are blind or visually impaired in rediscovering their independence and freedom. ICRE-Wood staff work one-on-one with participants to help them achieve their employment, education, training, and independent living goals.

 

ICRE-Wood offers a concentrated, short-term residential program for adults who are newly blind or visually impaired.
