Olympic Medalist Scott Hamilton Stars In Skokie's "Superstars On Ice"

Skokie's 2010 "Superstars On Ice" will headline American Olympic gold medalist Scott Hamilton, now serving as an NBC skating commentator during the Vancouver Winter Olympics.

 

Hamilton brings his talents to the Skatium Ice Arena on May 18th and 19th for a showcase of champion skaters such as Kurt Browning, Sasha Cohen, Todd Eldredge, Irina Slutskaya, and Yuka Sato.

RESPONSE Teens Go "Green" At This Year's Snowball Retreat

The theme of this year's RESPONSE's Snowball teen retreat is "going green." Snowball is an annual retreat planned and led by teens that gives you a break from your life and introduces you to new people from all over Chicago and suburbs. With support from Response staff, teens lead a weekend of fun activities like Ultimate Frisbee or Improv. You can also learn new things too! In past years students have explores issues of elf-defense, sexual identity, violence, diversity, and substance abuse prevention. Snowball is held at Camp Henry Horner in Ingleside, IL.

Niles North Wins Positive Coaching Alliance's "Honoring The Game" Award

 

Congrats to Niles North's coaching staff for winning Positive Coaching Alliance's "Honoring The Game" award. The award goes to schools and organizations that embody PCA's method of using sports to teach life lessons. Niles North is the first school in the Midwest to receive the award.

 

The school's athletic director accepted the award during the school's "Winter Spirit" assembly.

Young Skokie Public Library patrons, Rafi, Neha, Anusha, and Joshua, play arcade games that the programming students of Niles North created. Video Game Programming & Design is a new course offered at the school and may be taken in addition to the other technology classes. The students at Niles North spent much of their time coding the games and like at an arcade, the product accepts quarters.

Featuring ice skating, a fun fair, storytelling, costume contests, and hayrides, the Skatium has been haunting the whole family at Halloween for more than 30 years.

Junior Jill Erickson of the Niles West Girls Cross Country team takes her last strides as she races into the shoot during the school's 39th Annual Pat Savage Invitational earlier this month, October 3rd. With over 25 teams competing, the Patrick Savage Invite is thought to be one of the country's largest cross country meets.
