Ida Crown Academy OK'd to Build

Plans for the Ida Crown Jewish Academy to build on the old Rand McNally site at 8255 Central Park have been approved by the Skokie Village Board of Trustees. Half of the property will be re-zoned residential, while the other half will remain zoned for industrial use in order to ensure against losing more tax revenue. Construction could start in 18 months, with completion by 2013.

Congrats To Solomon Schechter Day Students For Win In State Environmental Art Contest

Congratulations to Solomon Schechter Day students Jack Nolan, Jacob Einhorn and Zackary Harris for winning third place in a statewide environment art contest.

 

The contest, sponsored by the Chicago Botantic Garden and the Illinois Governor's Office, challenged students from 8 to 18 to submit designs to "Art On A Rain Barrel'' as part of the governor's "It's Our River Day 2009."

North Park University Gospel Choir Ensemble at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church

Music Runs in the Family

Adam Bellows performed last Saturday in the Vaudeville Revival at the DesPlaines Theatre.  The guitarist -singer-composer entertained the audience with his versatility in style.  He also returned to the stage and introduced the audience to Beat Box rhythms as "Busta Beat".    Music runs in the Bellows family.  His mother,  Beryl Bellows, has served as the Cantor for Temple Judea Mizpah, Skokie, Illinois for over 20 years.  The Vaudeville Revival is a variety show that features local talent.  Adam is scheduled to appear again on September 12.

Carolyn Reiner Brings Out the Bears of Hope for Mitzvah Day

Carolyn Reiner holds one of her bears on the grounds of Temple Judea Mizpah during their Mitzvah Day August 23rd. Bears of Hope works to "provide children and adults recovering from an illness; suffering trauma; feeling depressed; or mourning the loss of a loved one, a special bear to give them hugs, comfort, and hope."

 

Hosted by the Religious and Social Action Committee each year, Mitzvah Day allows space for local social service organizations to come together and help the community learn more about their good works.

Sketching, Painting with Watercolor and Acrylic (ART D07-61) demonstrates how to sketch a subject and follow the steps to complete a painting. All skill levels are welcome. Eight-week course meets 10am–12pm, Wednesday, starting Sept. 23. Fee is $110.
