Opportunities Abound For Skokie Residents To Give Back, Volunteer, Make A Difference

As President-Elect Barack Obama calls for more service and sacrifice from Americans, civic-minded Skokie residents will find that they need look no further than to local agencies for ways to give back.

 

Locally, there are a multitude of opportunities to volunteer and make a difference.

 

* The Council for Jewish Elderly is seeking volunteers to deliver hot and cold meals on weekdays for the Home Delivery Meals program in Evanston, Skokie and Morton Grove. Hot and cold meals are delivered between 11am and 12:30pm weekdays. Volunteers work in teams of two; one person drives while the other delivers the meal to clients' doors. Volunteers are asked to choose one or two weekdays on which they can regularly serve. For more information, contact Cookie Rubin at 847.929.3614.

 

* The Village of Skokie needs volunteers for its meal delivery program to hombound seniors. Meals are delivered from 11:30am to 12:30pm on weekdays. for more information, contact Terri Williams at 847.933.8208.

 

*The NorthShore University HealthSystem is seeking volunteers to work with patients and families dealing with terminal illness. Daytime hospice volunteers are needed to: provide companionship and emotional support to patients; relief for their caregivers; transportation; perform errands and or light housework; or donate baked goods.
