adobofest 2009

In collaboration with Gawad Kalinga's 5K GK Walk fundraiser, Adobofest 2009 took place at LaBagh Woods on September 13, 2009. It was hosted by the Filipino American Network (FAN); and presented in partnership with the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Chicago (PACCGC), and Hataw Pinoy Chicago and Life....Pinoy Style with Ron Bilaro.

The event's focus on Philippine's history and rich cultural heritage was the master key that unlocked the support and cooperation of volunteers, sponsors, non-profits, and business organizations to this worthy undertaking. This year's attendance of more than 500 persons represents a 250% increase compared to last year's attendance of around 200 persons.

There were 18 entries vying for the titles of 2009's 'Chicago's Best Tasting Adobo' and 'People's Choice'.  Victoria Almiron's "Adobo Inspired by Victor" took home the top award, while Larry and Ginger Leopoldo's dish was awarded "People's Choice".

Kids enjoyed taking part in Filipino children’s games (pabitin and hampas palayok) while student and youth organizations participated in Hataw Pinoy Chicago's Quiz Show "Patinikan sa Talino (PST!)".

FAN acknowledges the contribution of its volunteers who gave their time and talent to help make the event possible.

Organizations who participated in the event included: Chicago DirtRiders, Alliance of Filipinos for Immigrant Rights and Empowerment (AFIRE), Filipino American Community Health Initiative of Chicago (FACHIC), Believe International, BakitWhy.com, Couples for Christ, The Filipino American Community Builder and Cirera Express, Chicago Anklung and Rondalla Ensemble, Samahang Kapatid, Ethnik Roots, U.S. Census (Jerry Clarito) and Dr. Jeremy Bonsol's Wellness Revolution.
