Filipino 'parols'
The Filipino tradition of making "parols" or Christmas lanterns is a custom that dates to the 1600s.
The 2008 Parol Workshop is a cultural project of Asian American Arts and Cultural Foundation (AAACF). The workshop was led by Fred DeAsis (http://www.fdeasis.com/3.html), a respected Filipino American artist and Arlington Heights Arts Commissioner.
The workshop was held Saturday, Nov. 15th, at the Mary Radmacher Room of the Skokie Public Library. The event included a presentation of the significance of parol in the Filipino culture, as well as a sing-along of Filipino Christmas carols.
