Illinois Companies Sought 11,847 H-1 Job Permits In 2009

Nearly 9,000 Illinois employers quietly requested permits to fill 11,847 job openings with foreign citizens under the H1-b visa program in 2009. Annual wages for these jobs totaled $795 million.

 

The average wage was $67,143 -- 158 percent higher than the average wage of $42,540 in Illinois, according to a report produced by Brightfuturejobs.com.

Administrators of the Niles Township Schools' Ell Parent Center have applied for a $50,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project which, if awarded, would be used to provide new computers and trained translators for the center.

 

The Pepsi Refresh Project is giving away a million dollars a month for education, health, arts and culture -- and you can do your part to help Niles Township win.

Chicago Cultural Center Presents 'Filipino As An Artist' Exhibit

Works by seven Filipino American artists will be exhibited during October at the Chicago Cultural Center, 30 N. Michigan Ave. in downtown Chicago.

 

The exhibit intends to show the artistry and ingenuity of Filipino American visual artists during Philippine American History Month.

 

The participating artists are Susan Alforque Silvano, Eulalio Bueno, Fabie de Silva, Cesar Conde, Jun-Jun Sta. Ana, Willi Buhay, and Wivinne Eve Red Buhay (“ERBU”). For information, call 773.728.9239.
