AFire Lifeline: Some Practical Tips for Immigrants

When one applies for US citizenship or naturalization, a key factor that indicates a "good fit" for potential citizenship is the length (number of years) of the actual physical presence of the applicant inside the US. The ideas is, when an alien seeks to become a citizen, by all means, show good faith by staying put and stop or minimize travel to different shores.

Naturalization requires physical presence in the US for at least 30 months of the 5-year residence period (shorter for a marriage with a US citizen) prior to applying for citizenship.
